Malév unbeatable at Ferihegy

Malév welcomed its two millionth revenue passenger of the year on 31 August, nearly one month earlier than it did last year. Continuing the positive trend, which has been apparent from the second half of last year, the number of Malév customers continues to increase at a dynamic rate. Malév's scheduled traffic in the first six months of 2006 increased by 14% over the same period last year. The airline carries a majority of its customers on routes in Western Europe, although in growth terms the greatest dynamism is apparent on the Central and Eastern European routes. The popularity of Malév's North Atlantic services continues unabated: a 4% increase in passenger numbers was accompanied by an average load factor of 79%.
Amsterdam, London and Bucharest are the airline's most popular destinations, and by upping the flight frequency to Bucharest (four flights a week), the airline carried 45% more travellers to the Romanian capital in the first half of the year compared to 2005.

Airport Pécs: runway extension

Following the inauguration of the Pécs-Pogány (Southern Transdanubia) airport in March, the runway needs to be extended to serve further developments. Airport traffic has met expectations; besides AUA's Pécs-Vienna route, smaller aircraft also use the facility. However, the airport has not attracted charters, and to remedy this situation the owners of the airport need to extend the runway from its current 1500 metres length.

Further developments in Sármellék

Following the already invested HUF 2.5 billion (9 million Euro), a further HUF 1 billion (3.5 million Euro) will be spent on the development of the FlyBalaton Airport at Sármellék. A 2500-sqm cargo terminal and a 6000-sqm logistic base will be built, allowing the airport, serving 80-100,000 passengers this year, to join the international cargo traffic network, and DHL and TNT would launch a delivery service to and from Sármellék. A further HUF 150 million (550,000 Euro) would be allocated for road traffic developments, a tourism centre, a watchtower and a playground.

Szeged airport development finished

Development of the Szeged international airport has been finalized. The new hub offers arrivals a 1185-meter-long runway and local entrepreneurs have already bought private jets. Operators predict that regional scheduled traffic will take off in 1-2 years.
